My obsession with Surface Pattern Design began 5 years ago. My first pattern ever was on 2/01/2019, after watching a Peggy Dean SkillShare video, using my bardotbrush Prismatic Markers in Procreate on my 2016 iPad Pro 12.9”, seeing if I could focus in on art enough to justify buying the new 2018 iPad. If I could show enough commitment to drawing on my iPad, I would upgrade. I had no idea I would still be drawing every day nearly six years later.

“Peacock and Wisteria” was completed 10/19/2024 and shows my growth as an artist. I love the fact that my first pattern is a bright floral on a dark background. I have been struggling with the idea of “brightening up” my work lately to make it more marketable. And that is still definitely an avenue worth investigating. But finding this original work is comforting and reassuring.

Bold florals on dark backgrounds is part of who I am as an artist. It’s part of my core, essential style. It’s okay to put a few patterns out there that are on lighter backgrounds knowing that my true passion is bold florals on a dark background. And paisleys. But that’s another post….
